Review on Kreg KMA3700 ACCU-Cut XL Precision Tool by Shane Hartford

Not a bad product from this brand.

This is one of those products where you read five good reviews and one bad one and think one bad review is wrong, but it's correct. This is not a good product. I was concerned about accuracy, but for my needs, accuracy really didn't matter. What's really important is that the rail sits on the board you're cutting and doesn't have a clip or retainer to hold it in place. A couple of C-clamps might help, but that's not surprising. The tray that the saw rests on is plastic and not durable. The rest holding the saw and the rail do not mesh or work together. The aluminum rail has rounded edges at the top that don't hold the tray in place. If the trace deviates from the line at any point or slips slightly, the shell will be loosened and will no longer cut along the line. The plastic shell can warp slightly after it is attached to the saw, loosening the connection between the two. If something comes loose or moves, the saw will jump off and not cut along the line. I've seen other Kreg products that go really well together and I was surprised that this product turned out to be so bad. I have seen some similar products from other brands and will not try them. A thin, straight board, a pair of vise clamps, and a good measuring tool are the best methods for making long cuts with a circular saw. Take some time and practice cutting instead of spending $140 on it.
