What I needed were ceiling medallions
My electrician advised me to buy one of these when he was looking to hang my new kitchen lamp and realized my old lamp had been smudged during a ceiling renovation many years ago. It was the perfect size to cover the torn edges of the plaster and my electrician said the piece was just the thickness he needed.
