This is one of the few smart chargers that allows you to bypass the security system and start charging regardless of whether it detects a properly connected battery (press and hold the start button for a few seconds). This means that you can charge a battery whose voltage is below the detection threshold. VERY few "smart" chargers do this. but I'm glad I now have an alternative to my old "dumb" Schumacher charger (I hate using Schumacher because dumb chargers will overcharge and drain your battery if you leave them plugged in after the charge is complete) . better than my Schumacher 8A smart charger as it won't stop charging if you turn on a load in the car (e.g. heated seats, headlights, etc.) while charging. Some other chargers declare the battery "bad" because they see a voltage drop. but the thing goes on. My only regret is the 10A version, looking back I wish I had gone for a larger unit.
