Some of my less expensive imported electric guitars have square-edged fretboards that are difficult to play. In addition, in many cases the fretboard wood has compressed, causing the metal frets to protrude (so-called "fret rungs"). I use a file to sand down the edges of the frets and fingerboard. I then use sandpaper to remove the filing marks and smooth the fret ends and neck edges. I bought this series because of the large selection of grits. I am very happy with the results. Each higher grit does an excellent job of removing the scratches left by the previous lower grit sandpaper. I do this by wrapping sandpaper around the foam block and running it up and down the edges of the neck at a forty-five degree angle. . The lining is really hard. While the hardness doesn't negatively affect the sanding result, it does get a bit of a hassle to fiddle with sandpaper to wrap the foam block. I wish the paper backing was more pliable.
