Review on Optimal Battery Maintenance with Extreme Max 1229 4023 Battery Maintainer by Daniel Ogbebor

2 amps only, not 4 x 2 amps = 8 amps

I purchased this product to individually manage 12v golf cart batteries. Like many others, my car sometimes stands still for months. As batteries age, charging requirements also change. From what I see with my regular golf cart charger, batteries tend to overcharge as they age. This is a modification to evaporate the water in the battery. This behavior usually starts with a battery draining. Because this charger has four separate charging channels, it can handle each battery independently. The specs state it is loaded at 2A per channel. This should mean that it charges with only 8A. As the charger that came with my golf cart is a 15A charger it seems like it would work fine or possibly replace all together a golf cart charger , i.e. out of service. Based on my observations with an ammeter, the output of this device is about 2 amps, not 8 amps. I've never seen it draw more than 200 watts while my regular golf cart charger draws between 800 and 1200 watts. Regardless, it serves to keep my car's batteries charged while I'm away. The investment is worthwhile for this alone, because unused batteries wear out faster.
