Review on Memorex External Drive Recorder Format by David Ruwala

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Bad quality, no support.

I had high hopes when I bought this. I immediately used it to create a recovery disk for my netbook. It created the drive ok. The problems started when I used Lightscribe to label the disc. In general, the quality was poor and there were a lot (20+) tree-like rings on the disc that shouldn't be there. driver firmware. The Knowledge Base lists either this or a failed drive as the problem. I went to the Memorex website and selected support. After making various decisions to find the right model, I was taken to a screen that advertised the drive's capabilities. At first I thought I accidentally selected the store instead of the support option, so I didn't go back and do it again. I wasn't wrong. Such was the extent of their "support", a splash screen with features. There was nothing useful. There is no way to get help online. There is no knowledge database or even forums. There is no way to update the firmware. I found a phone number that was useless. It seems impossible to contact their customer service department. Even the "Get Support" link in the software that came with the drive took you to the same promotional page. The software that comes with this label printer is very simple. You cannot use images other than the provided templates. Needless to say, this is coming back and I will never buy a Memorex product again.
