Simple and effective

Update: Almost two years later this system still works great for me. Used it to tow an 18-foot trailer 300 miles, haul a house, haul building materials about a half-dozen times or so, and haul firewood about 2,000 pounds at a time last winter. I had to take some sandpaper for the grooves. because I left it unprotected over the winter and the ball wouldn't come back, but it only took a minute to fix and it was really my fault for not taking better care of it. All the balls swap places without any problems. Just keep it oily or oily and you won't have a problem. Initial Review: Background: I bought this for my 2000 Durango (aka Dr. Derango/The Dr.) because the previous owner(s) rusted the hitch into the receiver. I'm sure I'll find a way to take it apart one day, but for now all I need is a quick change system to pull things through without too much hassle. Pros: No moving parts: Reese's system uses too many small moving parts (springs, ball bearings, etc.) just begging to be sealed. The Reese I bought earlier was defective out of the box and the lock bearings fell right out of the box. Good design: The ball can hardly jump out thanks to the well thought-out groove pattern. The ball itself must break before it leaves the post. Bad: Good Fit: Well, it's not really "bad" per se. There's virtually no play between the ball and the stand. Good for stability, yes, but I've noticed that it sticks a little when it's cold. Have a spray lube handy and you'll be fine. Ugliness: Nothing Ugly: This set looks and works well. Other Thoughts: Remember to pick up the ball when not trolling. The ball may not be able to get off the trailer, but there's nothing stopping it from bouncing off a bumpy road or into a parking thief's pocket.
