Review on Black Safety Padlock for 🔒 Lockout Tagout – Master Lock 410BLK by Chris Thrower

Those of us in the Locksport community know that Master Lock causes a lot of jokes because their products are truly awful. However, this castle is a rare exception. This lock is NOT designed to protect against physical attacks; the body is made of plastic. However, with a 6-pin core that includes all guard pin drivers, this is great practice for those looking to improve or retain their coil and prong pin skills. My attached photos give you a glimpse into the castle. The lock case is not intended to be opened; the plastic housing is hermetically sealed. I tore mine at the seam line and then glued them together with super glue. The plug has a standard Master Lock keyway, but since the entire core is relatively small, maneuvering the pick can be a little tricky due to the limited space. Also, it's dead core, meaning there's no spring tension on the fork. Therefore, accurate tension becomes very important, which is a more important practice. My lock (and I'm guessing yours too) contained 5 coil screwdrivers, 1 notched screwdriver (two spaced teeth) and 6 standard key pins. At single-digit prices, this lock simply can't be beat. Well, if anyone could talk Master Lock into ALL their locks like that. The key (and therefore the plug) only rotates 90 degrees before stopping. Once this lock has been successfully opened, DO NOT rotate the plug nearly 180 degrees. Stop at 90 like the key does. The reason for this is that if you turn the core 180 degrees, all the key pins in the plug will fall out into the lock body. You then have to either throw it away or hack it and re-pin it. You can see what the lock looks like when you open it and over-tighten the plug in one of my photos. All key pins are exposed in the recess.
