Much safer than the quick releases that came with my bike! I had to tighten them after a couple of weeks of daily driving as they loosened considerably, but after one round of tightening they have stayed secure for the past three months with no issues. I like to carry a small key with me in case I need to adjust the seat height when I'm outside, so I wish it came with two keys so I can keep one at home. Other reviewers are right as the non-key end of the skewers is textured so a thief can use pliers or a vise and rip your wheel out if they wish. However, I'm pretty sure my front wheel isn't worth the hassle, so I'm quite happy with it.
