The test strip is coated with the test strip to prevent water getting on it. The readings I'm getting are not very accurate. I had a very severe ammonia problem and the test strip showed I only had a reading of 0.5 - very low stress levels. I checked it three times and it came back to 0.0 twice and 0.05 once. I will no longer order and will send it back for a refund.
