Review on πŸ”Œ D-Link DGS-1024D Ethernet Switch - 24 Port Gigabit Unmanaged Fanless Network Hub, Desktop or Rack Mountable, Black by Mark Kolipano

Great fanless switch - updated from what Revain shows

Just ordered one of these as part of a project to centralize and centralize my home network. Before that I had connected several switches in the basement together. This new D-Link switch allowed me to rack mount it using the nifty vertical rack mounts, and combined with the 24-port patch panel and rack cable manager, everything was very organized. The Revain description for this switch is out of date. The current version of the product shows that it is 73% more efficient than similar non-green D-Link switches with the latest power supply. It's also worth noting that my device's faceplate is silver, not the white faceplate in the product photos. The 24-port beast consumes just 3 watts. With five gigabit devices, it only consumes 7 watts. According to the specification, this switch shouldn't consume more than 19 watts even under full load. The switch has features that reduce power consumption based on device connection speed, cable length, and port activity. All of this means you can build a very reliable home network without running something 24/7 that uses a lot of power. I was about to order a competing Netgear product (JGS524) but Netgear has two fans (noisy and prone to crashes) where like this D-Link switch is fanless! This is very important as the fan in such a product is often the component that fails over time. Not to mention the sounds you feel when you are close to the device. Netgear has a "lifetime" warranty (and better warranty support), while D-Link has a 5-year warranty. With no moving parts and when connected to a good quality surge protector, the D-Link box should run for a very long time without problems. The performance with this switch is excellent, I get rocket fast rides between all my devices. It's worth noting that this is an unmanaged switch, so you can't use this switch to split your network into VLANs, or do cable diagnostics, etc. However, for its purpose of providing a super-fast home or small office network, it offers tremendous value. Highly recommended!
