Decent unmanaged gigabit switch

This switch was purchased to replace a failed D-Link DES-1026G 10/100 24-port switch to replace. The D-Link DES-1026G was purchased about 7 years ago and was working fine until a month ago the fan failed causing the unit to overheat and connection issues. A new DGS-1024D costs about 2/3 the size of a DES-1026G. This makes it suitable for both "desktop" use (if you don't mind running 24 Ethernet cables behind your desk) and rack mounting (with included brackets). Front panel on DGS-1024D I haveโ€ฆ

Pros
  • All ports have MDI/MDI-X auto-sensing for automatic cable detection

Great switch for printers and supplies

This is a really good switch. Low power consumption and no fan. The status indicators are good and quickly show which ports are 1G or 10/100. I saw a review where the author said the location of the status lights was a bit odd, and that's true. Port placement/order vs. status LED placement/order is a bit hard to come by - D-Link could have placed the ports better. The order of the status LEDs would make sense if they numbered the ports horizontally directly instead of how they chose to. Theโ€ฆ

Great unmanaged switches

I installed 3 of these switches in a small business environment with about 60 connections and they work great. Excellent throughput for this size and very reliable. I've had 3 of these in different versions over the last 5 years and they are little workhorses. For an unmanaged switch, it gets the job done. I would also recommend them to others. They retired a bunch of unmanaged but reliable 3com 10/100 switches whose fans failed. I have experience with managed and unmanaged switches from manyโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Full speed non-blocking forwarding and filtering
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

Is working. The position of the LEDs is strange.

Definitely not the most expensive 24-port switch on the market. D-Link meets the requirements with large frames, QoS (factory setting) and gigabit connections. For $175 I am happy with my purchase. As a network administrator, I spend my day configuring. So when I get home I don't want to think about unnecessary details like managing a switch. It replaced an 8-port Gigabit D-Link I've been using for over two years (still works fine so I replaced my friend's outdated 10/100Mbps Linksys with it)โ€ฆ

Pros
  • Office products
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Reliable Manufacturer in a Compact Form Factor

I've outgrown my SMC Barricade router and decided to expand my network with a 16-port Gigabit switch. I originally wanted to use a Linksys switch, but the reviews were generally poor, reporting a very high failure rate. I wanted to take the time to set it up and forget about it and although I've been using it for less than 24 hours it works well and is easy to set up. I think the documentation is pretty clear, but if you're not tech savvy you'll have trouble defining some of the extra features.

Pros
  • Printer Parts and Supplies
Cons
  • No Instructions

Great fanless switch - updated from what Revain shows

Just ordered one of these as part of a project to centralize and centralize my home network. Before that I had connected several switches in the basement together. This new D-Link switch allowed me to rack mount it using the nifty vertical rack mounts, and combined with the 24-port patch panel and rack cable manager, everything was very organized. The Revain description for this switch is out of date. The current version of the product shows that it is 73% more efficient than similar non-greenโ€ฆ
