I wanted to like this mirror so much

Very disappointing product. I bought it based on multiple extremely positive reviews from across the internet and I can't see how the reviewers were able to overlook so many shortcomings in product design (unless they all were paid, of course). But let me elaborate. The product makes quite positive first impression. It feels well made, like an expensive smartphone or something. The first kink becomes evident during the installation: the mirror comes with power cord meant to be plugged into a cigarette lighter. Given that you need to wire rear view camera and gps sensor and you will be pulling interior panels for that, plugging it into the cig lighter just doesn't make sense. To be fair, there is a special harness for it, which is sold separately. The second problem I encountered during the installation was that if you power the device through the lighter, you can't record anything while the car is parked, although in my car the outlets are connected to the battery, so it supposed to work fine. Well, it completely drained brand-new, fully charged battery over the weekend, when the car was parked. It simply draws something like 0.7 amps until the battery is fully discharged. So you need that harness, which is sold separately, again.Power consumption aside, I was not impressed with video quality. It is ok at date time and quite low in the night. The mirror itself becomes almost unusable when it is dark due to massive amount of color noise. My hopes that bright headlights of cars behind me will be dimmer than in reality did not play out. The lights just mess the picture completely, the camera lacks dynamic range or any image processing. The product features software with horrible usability and a ton of bugs. The mirror refused to work with half of the sd cards I tried, and with those that worked it started giving an error message, saying the card is too slow, after about 1 week of use. By the way the message appears several minutes after power up, in the center of the screen, blocking the view and forcing the driver to click one of two small buttons (ok, cancel, both doing the same) while the car is moving.Impact detection is very sensitive even when sensitivity is set on low. When the impact (e.g. a minor bump on the road) is detected, big yellow lock sign is displayed in the center of the screen, blocking the view. I was not able to find the way to dismiss it, except for pulling power cord out.The final nail into the coffin of this device in my car was the fact that you never know if it is recording or not. I'm many cases I found that recording stopped by itself and had to be resumed manually. This device had one job.In summary, this device turned out to be really bad as a dashcam and mediocre as a mirror. With UI designed by people who perhaps never drove a car, it is simply unusable as is. It is too bad my return window has closed as I was trying to like this product and make it work by all means, but to the recycling center it goes.
