Pretty but chain broke almost immediately

I got this as a gift for my mom for her birthday. (Yes, she just turned 70.) The very first time she was putting the necklace on, the chain broke. She declined my offer to get a replacement as she is afraid the chain will just break again since it’s so fine/thin so we’re sending it back for a refund and I’ll find something else for her instead. (She also said the clasp is very small.)

My father bought this for my mother... It seemed like a good gift. Very thoughtful!
