I thought Gates was a good brand. But this part is disappointing. The original tensioner lasted 10 years. After 10 years, its spring weakened and the belt began to slip. This Gates tensioner has failed spectacularly after 2 years. The plastic top of the cylinder broke, the spring was overstretched. The top of the cylinder pressed the belt against one of the pulleys. I noticed this problem when I saw that the outside of the belt was worn half the width down to the wires and the other half was like new. straight up and down but sideways and pressing on the roll. Pictured is a defective Gates part next to a new one I bought to replace. And you can see the side of the cylinder that was sawed off from the belt and the pulley that it was rubbing against.
