Review on πŸ“ Starrett C604RE 6 Tempered Graduations Thickness Gauge: Accurate and Reliable Measurements at Your Fingertips by Brian Samuel

Revainrating 5 out of 5

My Grandpa's Era Quality

Why pay triple (or more) what this 6" line has to offer compared to other models? Because this is the last line you'll ever buy .The rule is like the same rule my grandfather used in his shop in Starrett, didn't skimp on quality so it's probably the same price (adjusted for inflation) as it was when he got his! There are 4 scales: 1 /8 , 1/16, and on the reverse 1/32 and 1/64 These last scales are "quick to read" because they are marked to tell you how many 1/32" and 1/ 64" you have. The "zero inch" mark starts at the edge of the study, a stiff piece of steel. Ideal if you want to place a blank on a fence and measure. They even have two scales (1/32) on the Ends of the ruler that allow you to take measurements in hard-to-reach places. The important thing is t that you can feel every gradation on this scale as the markings are not printed but actually engraved in steel. This makes them an integral part of the rule, even if solvents or oils are dropped on them. The entire surface is non-reflective, so you won't be blinded by glare when measuring in the light. Finally, the ruler comes in a simple plastic case to protect it from rough handling when tossed in a tool box or bag. Yes, these details seem insignificant in the rating, but in fact they are very important in the store. My grandfather knew that. And so did I!
