This was my first time using this steak thermometer. The awkwardness I experienced reading and using it was what I thought was user incompetence. I didn't seem to get the expected result either and the steaks came through well (I wanted medium to medium). I recently used a thermometer with another person while making candy. She had an Oneida that she was very familiar with. He constantly read a higher temperature than this. Before our second batch of chocolates, I tried to calibrate them. I also had problems with it and the readings fluctuated so much that I couldn't be sure of my calibration. When I used it on a lollipop it was "better" but still lower than the Oneida but the candy was "done" as the Oneida indicated. So maybe my thermometer just "stumbles" when calibrating, maybe it's defective, or maybe my inexperience makes me a bad user. I hope that my rating will not scare off a potential buyer, but perhaps it will warn that everything is not so simple for an inexperienced person. Or maybe the manufacturer/seller could step in and help me fix the problems? I don't want to give up the product.
