Easy to install and works great

The built-in Ethernet adapter of my almost 10 year old Lenovo ThinkPad W700 was struck by lightning a few years ago. Luckily, the Wi-Fi adapter wasn't damaged, so I still had internet and network access, but at Wi-Fi speeds. This wasn't a problem until about 18 months ago, when the W700 was replaced by the Lenovo ThinkPad P71, pushing the Lenovo W700 to the top. Our house has a metal roof and WiFi throughput in this part of our house is significantly reduced. or syncing files between two systems over our local network has become unbearably slow. So much so that I started using the old "sneaker grid" approach and started moving files and data back and forth using flash drives. My W700 is pre-USB 3.0 and only has native USB 2.0 ports. USB 2.0 sticks are certainly faster than weak WLAN, but they are still relatively slow and always cumbersome. The first thing I bought was a StarTech USB 3.0 ExpressCard. USB 3.0 ExpressCard works great. With a USB 3.0 port, I can use USB 3.0 flash drives. Connecting USB 3.0 to both ends of the LAN made moving large amounts of data faster, but I still had to physically move the flash drives back and forth, and up and down the stairs between two Lenovo systems. I tried a USB 2.0 network adapter but the speed was about the same as Wi-Fi. I then tried a StarTech USB 3.0 Ethernet Adapter connected to a StarTech USB 3.0 ExpressCard. I had no idea if this would work and crossed my fingers as I restarted Windows 10. And it worked and I would like to add that it is very good. Now I can use large blocks of data again, e.g. B. 200 or 300 15-18MB photo files between my two Lenovo laptops in a minute or less. And one of my backup strategies - syncing files between the two systems - is much faster now.
