It was slow there at first. Now there is a fast

Let me start by saying that this ethernet adapter does exactly what I need it to do: provide gigabit ethernet transfer speeds. My problem: When trying to restore a backup disk image on my Dell Inspiron laptop, I found that my onboard Ethernet NIC was a 100BaseT only device. The Ethernet transfer rate was extremely slow and it took more than 18 hours for the recovery process to complete. I installed the Startech USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter and the transfer speed has improved significantlyโ€ฆ

This worsened my speed test results.

Easy to use. plug and play I thought my laptop doesn't support gigabit bandwidth, the problem turned out to be that I was using a CAT 5 cable and not CAT 6. Yes, the adapter connected a little faster with the wrong network cable. CAT 5 does NOT support high speed transmission. I switched to a high-speed CAT-6 cable and actually got BETTER throughput WITHOUT an adapter. This product is best for users, who don't have a network port on their laptop and need to use USB. Will come back because Iโ€ฆ

This is amazing stuff!

I bought a laptop a few years ago, unfortunately it only had a 10/100 card when it arrived. Since I was using a laptop in a fixed position, I tried upgrading the Wi-Fi card to get the full 1GB of service from my ISP. I use my laptop in such a way that I get drop outs on a certain program I'm using because wifi as you know is not full duplex. I gave up until I came across this device. I wasn't entirely convinced and thought it was just another trick. I connected the device to my USB 3. 0 portโ€ฆ

Pros
  • PORTABLE DESIGN. The compact and lightweight design of the USB 3.0/Gigabit Ethernet NIC makes it an ideal alternative to a portable network adapter or laptop accessory.
Cons
  • Not sure

Easy to install and works great

The built-in Ethernet adapter of my almost 10 year old Lenovo ThinkPad W700 was struck by lightning a few years ago. Luckily, the Wi-Fi adapter wasn't damaged, so I still had internet and network access, but at Wi-Fi speeds. This wasn't a problem until about 18 months ago, when the W700 was replaced by the Lenovo ThinkPad P71, pushing the Lenovo W700 to the top. Our house has a metal roof and WiFi throughput in this part of our house is significantly reduced. or syncing files between twoโ€ฆ

  • MAXIMUM COMPATIBILITY: This compact USB 3.0 network adapter is backward compatible with older USB 2.0/1.x computer systems. The adapter is also compatible with the IEEE 802.3, 802.3u and 802.3ab standards.
