Review on Dub-H4: D-Link 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub with Fast Charging Ports - Mini USB, 5V/2.5A Adapter by Scott Snyder

Excellent USB hub; Works for me without AC

I originally bought this hub to make it easier to use multiple USB devices with my laptop when using it on my desktop. At home. My printer, mouse, barcode scanner, and thumb drive are all USB devices, and pulling out my laptop to unplug one and plug in the other is getting pretty old. as if almost useless. At 4 inches wide and under 1 inch tall, the hub should easily fit on any desk, and rubber feet help keep it in place. The ports are wide enough so you shouldn't have any trouble connecting cables, flash drives, or other USB devices. I'm concerned, but I've found that the hub works fine without AC power, and despite the instructions saying it doesn't draw power from the USB bus, the power LED is lit and all devices work fine. . With no power supply, the hub also runs pretty cool and doesn't suffer from the blocking issues others have mentioned. If you plan to use primarily powered USB devices like printers, external hard drives, or DVD drives, you should be fine with an unpowered hub. AC power may be required for reliable operation when used as a keyboard, mouse, barcode reader, and flash drive. And if you're worried about taxing your laptop's USB bus too much, connect it via a docking station (like I did) or use an AC adapter. Still, many people should be able to use it seamlessly without adding another bulky "leech" to their power strips. Finally, the manual says that using USB 1 and 2 devices at the same time can cause the hub to go into USB 1-only mode. I emphasize "can" because I've done tests with older devices in USB 2.0 CD burners worked fine at USB 2 speeds - I suspect compatibility will then depend a lot on the actual devices being used.
