It's an expensive but huge upgrade from the 1080p 15-inch laptop I originally bought. 1080p is noticeably grainy if you're used to a MacBook's Retina display, and I was very unhappy with that. When this monitor arrived, I took it out. packaged it up, unplugged the 15" and plugged in this 17" 4K with a USB-C cable and I had a full 4K desktop in no time. A USB-C cable from a laptop provides enough brightness (>70) to work without a separate USB-C
