Review on πŸ”‹ 12 Volt Battery Charger by AmazonBasics by David Stewart

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I charged the SUV's battery but had to take it out

The most important thing is that the charging worked! He charged my battery in a 2015 Toyota RAV4 that died because the car was out of service due to a lockout. He was completely dead - I couldn't even open the car with the keys! I tried one of the booster batteries which didn't work. However, this charger will solve the problem! Thank God! It took less than 24 hours for the charge-to-charge indicator to turn green - at around 16 hours. Even though the website says it won't charge the SUV battery, if your SUV has a smaller battery, it will get the job done. That worked for us. I was expecting it to charge in about 30 hours (has 2 amps) but it was done much quicker. I was able to fill up the car and start the car a couple of times so I assume the battery is fine now. It's about 1.5 years old and has a 30 month warranty so buying a new battery would be a waste of money as it just needs to be charged. However, the instructions can be a bit confusing. It says you can charge the battery by leaving it in the car, but one of the instructions says the battery needs to be removed. For safety's sake, I removed the battery (it's not that hard if you follow the prompts on which wire to remove first) and charged it in a covered patio. To unscrew it, only three screws were required. Anyone with the right tools and a little strength to get the battery out can do it. It also allowed me to clean the battery up a bit as there was blue corrosion on the positive side of the battery. I'm no expert and this was really my first experience with a car battery, but I'm glad I tried this charger. From now on we will start the car more often so that we don't face other problems because we don't use the car.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • poorly thought out
