Review on 🔒 August Wi-Fi Smart Lock (4th Gen) – Simple Installation on Your Current Deadbolt, Sleek Silver Design by Matthew Hall

During the initial setup, this lock was difficult to connect to Wi-Fi. August support reported that they are aware of this issue. 24-48 hours after setting the lock, I received notifications on the iOS app about losing Wi-Fi connection. After a few minutes, you will receive another Wi-Fi reconnection notification. I have installed a lock and router loop. Preserved. Misplaced lock to door 20 feet from router. Preserved. I contacted tech support in August after learning that they recommend no more than 10 feet between the lock and the router or access point. I doubted it, but they held on. I have decided not to do this anymore as I am still in Revane's return window. I hope others find this review helpful. Subsequent update: Since my router supports band management, on a whim I enabled a dedicated 2.4GHz Wi-Fi SSID as I found the following on support.august.com. "If your router supports band control, where the router itself decides whether the lock should connect over a 2.4 or 5 GHz network, you may run into problems. If possible, disable this feature for the router and try connecting the lock to WiFi again." After connecting my lock to this SSID, I tested it for 24 hours. Every time I connected my iPhone went out of the lock's bluetooth range, the August app generated a notification that the lock had lost its WiFi connection. After 5-10 minutes you'll get another notification to reconnect to WiFi. I assume August is using it Bluetooth to save battery life?However, it seems that their 4th gen lock, app or both cannot seamlessly switch between Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.While this isn't an issue when it comes to locking my door / to unlock, but in my opinion it does not offer any peace of mind or security.
