Review on πŸš— Enhance Your Vehicle's Storage with RotopaX RX-TM Spare Tire Carriers by David Golden

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Works well but rattles

Works well with 3 gallon Rotopax. External placement of the Rotopax versus the spare was good on the 35x12 tire. I modified the tire mount and bolted it to the tire holder to make mounting the spare tire easier. The only things that could be improved would be a tighter fit between the inner and outer tube combination and perhaps the use of a captive screw with a built in handle instead of a set screw. Update: After using it on the road with a washboard, I found that the set screw loosens after about a mile no matter how tight it is. This is for starters. Then the gas bottle wobbles and makes noises. I plan on taking out the inner tube to make it tighter so I don't need a set screw. Update 2: I welded on the .050" washers and it's a nice slip fit. One observation is that the tube is not a DOM, so has an internal seam that requires large Rotopax clearances: maybe make the inner diameter of the outer tube smaller and use a pull or tack weld on the seals.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Modern
