Mixed issues almost led to disaster!

When this hose arrived we didn't notice the muddled threads. We didn't find any problem when manually tightening the fitting in the steering gear. But as soon as we started tightening the fitting, it immediately started tearing down the steps. Luckily I stopped tightening as soon as I noticed the problem leaving only a few threads frayed. Since this fitting is sealed with a tiny O-ring and does not fit, it requires very little torque. The fitting is really steel, not brass or copper, so I'm at a loss as to how easily that thread broke. But that left a steel mating thread in my cast iron steering gear. I screwed in the steering gear with a 1/2"-20 knucklehead thread. I ordered a different hose from my local auto parts store. And the new hose worked great. It took me many hours driving around town looking for a new hose and a custom faucet (you can't use a stock faucet!) Repairing the hose would have cost me another $200 to buy a new steering box. Of course it's all my fault, I should have inspected the new Edelmann hose instead of assuming they make car parts right.

Pros
  • Steering System
Cons
  • So far so good
