Ethernet over U-Verse HPNA

I received this product yesterday and installed it immediately. I connected the HPNA cable from the U-verse Home Gateway to the TRENDnet device's HPNA input. I then connected the Apple TV to one of the ethernet ports and the MacBook to the other ethernet port and both worked fine. Connected TV output to U-verse STB and nothing happened. No green light on STB. No signal. I tried using a splitter similar to the HOLLAND Electronics GHPNA-3 splitter sold at Revain for $4.85. The bandwidth of this splitter is 5 - 1500 MHz. I connected the HPNA cable from my home gateway to the IN of the splitter. I then connected one of the OUT jacks to the TRENDnet device and the other OUT jack to the U-verse STB. The Ethernet ports on TRENDnet TPA-311 and U-verse STB are now working properly. After reading the specifications of the TPA-311, I found that its bandwidth is 12-44MHz, which is clearly not enough for the U-verse STB. Using a splitter was key to making the app work.
