Review on HM&FC 2" x 50' Black Fiberglass Exhaust Header Pipe Wrap: Ultimate Motorcycle Fiberglass Heat Shield Tape by Stephen Burgstaller

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The perfect complement to your custom exhaust!

This is the perfect addition to my DIY drag tubes! Installation was easy as long as you follow a few key rules to make the process as smooth as possible: 1. Pre-soak the foil - I used an old one-gallon plastic bucket filled with warm tap water. And tossed the whole roll in about 30-45 minutes before I was about to start wrapping. 2. Use gloves when wrapping - I have a word for it, fiberglass. You will tighten this band as tight as you can. So unless you want to force fiberglass on your skin, I recommend good gloves. Preferably the ones you don't want to use again.3. drying and burning. After the wrapping is complete and tied, hang the whistles to dry for 24 hours. I know it will be tempting to install it right away and you probably will anyway, but if you have the nerve, use it here. As the film dries it adheres more firmly to the pipes which I think makes for a better end product. Once the pipes are back on the bike, take it outside (because of the smell) and let the bike run for a while. The packaging will smoke and smell awful, once the smoke has pretty much stopped you're good to go! My final tip: think about the ties you're going to use. As you can see in my drawing, I used the included stainless steel pads because I liked them. But they were absolutely impossible to tighten.
