Review on PanaVise Self Centering Extra Wide Opening by Robert Robertson

Dangerously sharp edges - poor finish - not sure without modification

I've wanted this vise for a long time and finally decided it was time to replace my clamp 396 high quality product from PanaVise something that does the job properly is up and running smoothly. Unfortunately, I experienced exactly the opposite! I never thought that this expensive "Made in the USA" tool could have sharp edges and a poor finish. As I lifted the new vise to inspect it, I cut my finger on one of several burr spots—sharp edges on the underside left over from the casting process. The flash was very sharp, but luckily not bad enough for stabs, and a minute or so with a dremel tool and a rock was enough to smooth everything out. I saw no point in swapping it out for a new one (why risk something worse?), but in hindsight I should have after noticing how badly the lead screw was sticking. The binding is so tight that it takes two hands to adjust the jaws - not very good when one hand needs to help stabilize the workpiece. I can't take anything off to fix it because all connections are blocked. Speaking of which, what's up with those oversized, archaic flat-head screws that hold the jaws in place? I won't use a dime or anything other than a screwdriver to unscrew them, I'm at my work place because I'm crying or being loud!
