Review on NETGEAR Consumer WN1000RP Wireless Range Extender - 54Mbps WiFi Booster for Mobile Devices by Phil Oliveira

Revainrating 5 out of 5

So far so good for USB network adapters

The extender works without further configuration. My main router is a Netgear Nighthawk R8000, so this extender might well work well with its big brother. I *didn't* use the first WPS-based installation method. WPS IS NOT SECURE! Instead, I used the second process, which sets up a WPA-based network. It creates a second network, mynetworkname_EXT. I would like this to really expand the current network, but I'm not sure if that's technically possible. I'll keep playing with it and will update it when I get it working. Please note that this is an expander and a repeater. So the extender needs to get a good, strong signal from the main router, and the extender's signal won't be any better than what it's getting from the router. What can be done is position the extender so that it has the best angle to the target area, much like launching an antenna. - in direct line of sight to the bedroom (i.e. the bedroom around the corner from the router). I think they used chicken wire or something when building this place so the wifi doesn't get through the walls very well. Definitely very satisfied.

Pros
  • Download the NETGEAR WiFi Analytics app before setting up the WiFi extender
Cons
  • Performance speed
