This knitting machine is really great. Very easy to work with and so far I haven't had any issues and it's been over a year since I've had it. It doesn't come with a row counter but there's one you can buy on Best Buy for less than $15 so that's not really a big issue. I've made hats, scarves, even a pumpkin. If you buy this make sure you go to YouTube and look at the many projects. This may be a cheaper version but that doesn't take away from the quality as long as your using it correctly. I would definitely recommend this as a gift
