Review on FELL Marine Wireless Switch Basepack by Vedprakash Trilltight

This MOB+ is a product whose time has come. Although kill switches have been installed on new boats over the last 25 years, they are very rarely used as you have to tie yourself to the rudder with a cord. Most try for a while and eventually give up because it hurts so much. I installed mine in under an hour. I pulled out my VOM and started testing the functionality when I pressed xFOB. It reliably broke the firing circuit when the xFOB was out of range or in the water. Thumbs up for the functionality. A small problem I had was that I have I/O. The ignition circuit has both an electric choke heater and an ignition coil. The throttle body heater consumes 3.5A. The ignition coil consumes 1.2 A / 1000 rpm. That means you have to let the ignition circuit draw 10A. Since the length of the ignition circuit is twice the distance from the engine to the helm/console, you must take this into account when determining the wire size that will support 10 amps. Looking at a sea load capacity chart, I need 10-12 gauge wire to support 10 amps for that length. The problem is that the xHUB is built into the ignition circuit and therefore needs to be wired to the same sensor in order not to pose a fire hazard. I found that the xHUB wires for the ignition circuit were only 18-20 gauge. This is too small to sustain a current draw of 10A over the full length of the ignition wiring. I solved this problem by buying an "ignition protected" ignition power relay and wiring it to the ignition circuit. The relay requires very little current to turn on and can handle up to 30A of current at the outputs. I think Fell Marine should put a note/warning on this in their manuals for those of us with inputs/outputs, standard firing points and electrical chokes installing this MOB+ system.
