Good for depth. Not good for finding fish

Only fished before. Super easy to use out of the box. The battery lasts all day on a full charge. The device can also simply be left on the ice as it is waterproof. You don't need a big ugly bag and car battery to use this. Super easy to set up and use. I've never owned a sonar but I've used a pair and this one is very similar to an entry level Garmin or Lowrance. The only problem is that I doubt it can detect real fish. I caught a few fish and got a few bites when there was nothing on the screen. This is at maximum sensitivity. Tried changing the settings a bit but no change. It also has trouble finding my mount unless I move it. When I move it it recognizes my 1/64 oz jig as a fish. As such, it's great for reading at depth, but unreliable when it comes to finding real fish. From time to time he showed me some fish and nothing bites, not even bites, so I doubt the accuracy of finding fish. I leave that because I need something for depth and I'm in open water. Depths in some of my local lakes as I don't have a boat and only guess from shore. For the price, the presence of this feature makes it worth going. If you want a more reputable and accurate instrument I would pay a little more and get a more reputable brand.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
