Review on Pop Lock PL1700 Manual Tailgate by Marvin Perry

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Skeptical at first glance.

***Edit 2022. I've had to fix this thing a few more times. I think my impromptu repair with "plastic welding" and reinforcing some spots with metal (finishing nails) is stronger than the original product. ***Reworked June 2020 Shaft completely broken in the middle.*** Update. Check out the video. (NM I made a video when I realized you could make out some license plates but.) So it took 10 days! It looks like one of the clips is loose or broken. Now, with the ceiling locked, I'm going to my truck. *** To update. Installed the same day. Installation was simple and easy enough. Everything seems to be working as it should. As another reviewer noted, the padding doesn't cover the area properly, leaving a few gaps for water to seep through. I've tried loosening the knob and redoing the gasket to make sure it seals properly, but no. They could probably make it 1 or 2mm thicker or wider and they wouldn't have that problem. I'll try to be factual about this. Handle. It works, no question. But that gasket is another thing that makes me question the level of quality control and durability of this product. ****** Original post *** Wow. I literally just received this and opened it up to inspect. I can't believe I'm writing this without first installing it, but I'm just so amazed at the cheapness of this thing oozing from the inside out. Luckily I got a good price from Revain stock. Due to a freshly opened packaging, it looks unused. The locking mechanism itself seems fine, but it's pretty much the only piece of metal in this whole set. I'll install it, but I guarantee you that if the internal mechanism breaks, I'll figure out how to unlock it. I'll install it and report!
