The front door was opaque and had a gap of about 3/8 inch at the bottom. Three problems: 1) the existing screws are not long enough to secure the door in the jamb, 2) the washers are not the same width as the hinge, so there is a rocking effect when the door opens and closes. 3) A 3/8" washer with the side of the hinge would be pretty ugly. So I'll probably cut out a tapered piece of wood to attach the post on the opposite side. Note that they're probably good for a smaller gap will work, but the hinge screws are set into the post and even a 1/16" hinge liner prevents the existing screws from being set to the same depth. 2.5/3" screws are available specifically for this purpose.
