I've also experienced replacement blades dulling very quickly as many others have said. The bearings in my planer motor have failed after more than 14 years and many sets of replacement blades. I've found that after installing the new motor mounts (which was a tough job to say the least!) my planer not only has a faster feed rate, but the blades work just as well when it was new. Another tip for changing knives: When changing knives, pay attention to the direction in which you have to turn the cutting head! Turn it toward you when standing on the switch side of the machine. If you spin it the wrong way you can end up pulling the motor pulley away from the shaft and causing serious problems. So if you have premature blade wear, you can check the condition of the rest of the planer, especially the motor bearings.
