We have a fireplace insert and a wood burning stove so we are constantly opening and adding logs, shift logs. etc. Sparks "fly" from time to time, and cleaning every morning contains small "live" coals that can fall from the shovel. But this mat holds up great! Easy to suck and does not burn. I looked through several other rugs. The size is perfect - not too big and not small (a shame). It's very well built. Re: different viewers and mat color. The "stripe" on the edge is honey-colored. to a lighter chocolate brown. The main part of the carpet is "cool" honey. beige, making it look like a grey-beige. It is the bars that make this color - white and beige. So this rug doesn't go perfectly with other shades of beige and brown, but that's okay. It still "goes" with almost everything. i have honey cool beige carpet it's on, the carpet isn't "in tone" but it looks nice. This is a great product and I would buy it again if the need arose.
