Very, very strong. Of course, the first season has traces of fire and inattention. But I prefer a rug that will NOT catch fire to a burned wooden floor, or worse, a rug that can catch fire. The reviews were accurate and you pay more for a wool rug, but the trade-off is peace of mind. Some embers even fly out from behind the fireplace door in front of the fire, this product did the trick. Will have to order another one when fireplace season starts this year.

These rugs are flame retardant and covered by my parents' home insurance. Long story short, my parents spent an arm and a leg on her, and while I was in town my dog managed to pee on her because he was sick. This is a thick and welcome rug in front of our wood stove. Previously, I had accidentally jumped a glowing lump of coal onto the main carpet, leaving a trail. Thick and protective, this rug makes kneeling in front of the stove that much easier. This is a good quality rug for a stove but I only gave it 4 stars because the rug I received was in the color differs significantly from the offer pictures. Looking at other reviews and photos it seems that the color of the carpets is very different. Mine is much taupe/greyer than the tan shown in the photo and the contrasting rim is barely visible. I've already written a great review and after reading some ridiculous complaints I just couldn't help but write another one. This is a beautiful high quality wool rug. Probably not treated with any of the toxic chemicals that many people are highly allergic to. The rug is just wool, and yes, if you throw hot coals at it, it will leave a hole. My son did it but it won't burn. Depending on the size of the hot coal, it will likely stop before it burns the floor, so use common sense and be careful.
