Review on 1AC-A1-II Fluke πŸ’‘ VoltAlert Non-Contact Voltage Tester by Rey High

Expected more from Fluke

Nobody would expect you to take out the batteries after every use, so they had to design this product with the expectation that the batteries would stay in for a long time. I'm not a professional electrician so I don't use this item often. Well when I used it recently but it didn't turn on. When I took off the battery cover, I suddenly discovered that the batteries had leaked. Normally this wouldn't be a problem if the batteries were housed in some sort of case to prevent chemicals from leaking out of the battery compartment. Well, this item uses an "open circuit board" design, so there is absolutely NOTHING to prevent chemical leaks from going straight into all the electronics and shorting them out. So, after cleaning everything with a mild degreaser and replacing the batteries, when I turn the unit on it lights up and beeps continuously - completely fried. So I paid a premium for a brand that I thought developed their products better than others, but they didn't. So instead I just bought a Sperry voltage tester for 30% less, and if it dies due to a battery leak, I'll throw away at least $10 less.

Pros
  • Price
Cons
