Review on Adjustable Converter 1 25 36V Efficiency Regulator by Wesley Bell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

These little buck converters are great. To update.

4 received. 4 worked fine. Connected to a 19.8 volt source (in this case the E6440 laptop power supply). The idea is to run a pair of external hard drives with a tap from the PS box, eliminating the need to connect 2 wall warts and their associated cables. Load 50W ohms. The output deviation was about 100mV when connected, but returned to 12.07 within about 500ms and stayed at that level throughout the 3 minute test. I could have held out longer, but the load resistors got pretty hot. As expected from the SMPS, the board/controller IC generated little to no heat. Since wall warts are only 1.5A, my 2A test should suffice. I might try to see how far I can push them in the future but 2A is fine for now. At around $3.50 each, I couldn't even scoff at them at that price point. I'm sure people had some problems. with these boards, but I'm a happy camper so far. As soon as they are launched in my application I will report on them. UPDATE 7/26/20. 2 test subjects spent 48 hours with 2 external drives 12 TB and 10 TB. This was after 8 hours of testing on an older 8TB drive that was consuming more power when booting up. Everything seems to be taking its course. Updated 08/12/20. Two WD hard drives work 24/7 for about 2 weeks. Ideal! I will order more for a new project. A word of caution for the clumsy like me, these circuits are not short-circuit proof. In one of my tests, I briefly touched the output wires. The step-down converter has failed. As in Ghostbusters. Don't cross the bars. Barring one mishap (my fault) these little guys are great.
