Review on BOSCH RA1151 Centering Pin and Cone Router Subbase by Shawn Mortensen

Not impressed but kept

Well Bosch usually makes me happy but here they got it wrong. And it's not the seller's fault, they were just fantastic. The plastic hollow cone is not quite round and the seat on the shaft wears out over time. They saved 1/2p on plastic instead of producing a quality product like most of their devices. It has tensioning ribs inside the cone that make contact with the stem when the cone is seated, so squeezing them together provides a snug fit - for a while. You have no control over how these parts react as they slide down the shaft and that is what sets the angle of the cone parallel to the shaft. I also bought one from their competitor and it is 100% turned steel, very accurate. Yes it was overpriced but it is high quality and will last a lifetime. I'll keep it as a backup anyway and fill in the special hole in the router case to keep it looking nice. It will be there in a pinch and should work well for projects that require less precision. I'm just picky when I have a high end tool like the MRS23, I expect the bits to be the same. Generally delivered on time, well packaged, I am satisfied.
