Review on North Tigerhood Classic Welding Helmets by Kory Shelton

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great hood, third party aluminum hardware required, beware of brittle plastic.

Union Ironworker - The hood is quite decent for its price. The included lens has a standard tint of 10, which works well with 1/8 and 5/32 sticks. I didn't burn any wires on this hood and I immediately added a 2x4 auto dimming which I really like too. My only issue with this hood is the plastic hardware that secures the headgear to the hood. This prevents you from tightening it so tightly that it doesn't fall on your face when you need it to stay up. I bought some third party aluminum parts and added a small amount of medium strength Loctite and it helped a lot. The new aluminum hardware allowed me to tighten the halo position more, but this also resulted in a small crack in the side of the exiting hood. . It could be because I was hit on the head or in the gang box during storage. In any case, keep in mind that plastic tends to crack, especially at low temperatures, as we see in Denver. All in all, I recommend this hood to other metallurgists and welders. Spending $300 on a range hood that doesn't work at all in the environment I work in didn't appeal to me. It was a solid alternative.
