The HDMI output cable from the device is less than 18 inches long. The total extension from the laptop to the HDMI end is about 2 feet. The only way to connect it is to block the laptop screen as part of the external monitor. I think the most disappointing thing is that the HDMI cable coming out of the converter does NOT detach to be replaced with a longer HDMI cable. In the current configuration it is practically useless. Now I need a male to male adapter to extend the length of the HDMI cable in order to use it which really just adds another point of failure and the simple solution is to make the HDMI output either pluggable or with to make a female ending. The practical use case for this device was not well thought out.
