ok so the thing was actually more expensive than the cooler itself but in my opinion absolutely necessary when installing an external transmission cooler. If it gets cold and you're not towing, you're never going to get the fluid temperature right without it, and I believe there's such a thing as a gear oil that's too cold. With this thermostat, my trans temp goes up to 175 and stays there whether I'm towing or not. Easy to install and I bought the brass hardware separately based on other reviews. Yes, the included hose connectors seem a bit cheap, so I'm glad I did.
