Works perfectly. I think people just have the wrong idea of what it does and how it works because it's not really explained in the product description. It exists for a very simple purpose: you can connect two network devices to a single existing network cable if for some reason you don't want to use another network cable or install a full Ethernet switch. I use this kit to connect two IP cameras without running a second cable.*** How it works ***Normal network cables have 8 wires. All 8 wires are required to connect to a 1000Mbps (gigabit) network. However, a 100Mbps connection only requires 4 wires and the remaining 4 go unused. This kit splits those four extra cables into "Jack 2" so you can connect a second device. Any device that can normally reach gigabit speeds should also work, but can only reach speeds of 100 Mbit/s. *** How to use it *** Unfortunately this kit does not contain everything you need. In addition to this "kit" you will also need two RJ45 connectors and four more network cables (you will probably need very short cables for this). I'm assuming you already have a long network cable running between your router/switch and the device at the remote site. Here's how you would typically use the kit: Step 1) Connect an RJ45 connector to each end of an existing long network. Cable. Step 2) The Cable Sharing Kit contains two identical keys. Connect a key to each RJ45 connector. Now pins 1 and 2 of the first key are connected to pins 1 and 2 of the second key. Step 3) Connect the two ports 1 and 2 to the router/switch using short network cables. Step 4) At the other end, connect your two devices to the two open RJ45 ports. See the attached diagram to see how you can set this up to power two security IP cameras.
