This screed does not come out of the ground. Period. But listen and be warned before you buy it. They should tell you that you need muscles and some kind of metal bar/bar. Depending on the type of ground that surrounds you, you'll have to rig this thing up with a heavy hammer. Once it's in place you'll need to put a metal rod through the loop at the top to screw it into the ground. Again, quite a bit of effort is required depending on the type of soil you're planting it in. I'm 220 pounds and I exercise regularly and it wasn't very challenging, but my wife couldn't have done it. But once that happens, you will be golden. Just understand that it takes some effort.
