Just received today. Haven't used it yet but it's a really nice solid design. I'm sure they will work GREAT! There is no problem giving 5 stars now without even using them. Much more powerful than the HD (just a few bucks more)! I considered buying stainless steel, but that's not necessary with them (stainless steel is much more expensive). Great design. They are specially designed for deck stairs. They also have them for horizontal gradients on deck rails. The ones in HD fit both, compromise and much more fragile! Note that the vertical holes on these that go into the vertical 2x4s are staggered so the screws don't interfere with each other. (recommended #8 screws). Can't tell from the picture. In the reviews on the HD site, the ones mentioned are easily hacked. I think it will take a lot of strength to crack them. Whether that will happen is highly doubtful. Another note: HD must be screwed into the end of a 2x4 vertical plate. THESE ARE NOT! Bolts going horizontally into vertical 2x4s will take care of this situation. I think this will make the installation much easier! Very happy that Revain is wearing them! I am impressed. I'm not a carpenter but a retired engineer and I appreciate good projects! I replace rotten banisters and use them for that. If I do any additional deck work next year I will definitely be using this and the horizontal design.
