Review on Stant 10837 Fuel Cap by Jayshawn Cuatlayol

Failed horribly

I had a gas cap that was less than 6 months old. While driving I let the gas level get much lower than normal (exhaust runs) and when I stopped this gas cap would not open. The click mechanism rotated in both directions, so it could not be removed. We were at a gas station on the Autobahn, so I was looking for an expensive tow truck to go to the workshop for a long time. Eventually I was able to force it open with pliers and all the strength of my fingers. As soon as I got home, I put the factory cap back on. Also, it was locked too tightly before it failed. My wife was often unable to open it without using the gas cap opener that we had to purchase for an additional $20 to keep her out of trouble. Those two issues are likely related - either poor design or poor quality materials. This cap was a waste of money. I bought this cap to fix a check engine light problem said to be caused by a leaking gas cap, but the solution has created a new, more serious problem. At least one other opened each time. Unfortunately, Stunt doesn't seem to be the only supplier of gas caps in town anymore, so I guess I'll go back to the dealer for an expensive cap that I can take off whenever I want. I'm just glad my wife wasn't lonely when this happened.
