Review on πŸ”₯ Replica Zippo Lighters by David Chen

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The perfect Zippo in every way. A real pleasure to own and use.

This lighter looks and feels absolutely perfect - it feels even better in your hand than the pictures. In my opinion, Zippo succeeded with the 1941 replica design. I have two other Zippos, both work great so I didn't need another one, but loved the vintage look and the black crackle finish. Modern zippos fit perfectly in the hand - they are rounded and smooth; This copy has flatter edges and feels great in a different way. Flatter edges combined with a textured surface provide a secure grip and an easy motion to open the lid. I like how the lid opens all the way until it touches the body of the lighter; Modern Zippos can be opened almost completely, but the hinge prevents the lid from touching the case. I don't know why that's a satisfactory distinction, but it is. The bottom of the lighter is flat rather than concave (the lighter still sits perfectly on its base) and the logo is in a different font. The bottom is stripped of the black crackle detailing in a perfect rectangle to leave room for the logo and other markings. One difference I didn't read about and watched loads of reviews and videos before ordering is that the replica insert is smooth on all sides. The modern one has a bulge at the bottom on both sides to lengthen and hold the case a little, and to make it easier to tow and refuel. I prefer a precise design because it can help slow the evaporation of the liquid by creating a tighter seal. The Zippo typically needs to be refilled every few days to a week as lighter fluid evaporates, which I think will be the case here as well. Despite the tighter clasp, this insert tends to lift a bit with use, just like modern ones. However, it's okay. It rises just a little, and I squeeze it again with my thumb. I got this yesterday so I don't have any long term observations yet but I'm sure they will hold up very well. Oh, and it catches fire easily and, as advertised, is very wind resistant. I like items that are not only functional but also aesthetic. This Zippo looks and feels perfect in my palm, works simply and reliably and has a clear historical reference. I can't recommend it more highly.

Pros
  • all-metal version; windproof design works almost anywhere
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
