My application is timekeeping and certainly not flight controls. This module was fascinating because of its low price compared to other modules. /Terminal. β’ Operates at 5V and I have confirmed on the oscilloscope (and in use) that both TXD and PPS output TTL levels. β’ Draws 35mA at 5V. β’ PPS is a positive 100ms pulse and positive transitions appear to mark *next* received sentences and seconds = 00. Note that PPS are only shown if there is actually a fix (e.g. $GPRMC status term = 'A'). The small red LED on the breakout board appears to be wired as an inverted PPS, so stays red until corrected and then flashes along with the PPS. Healthy. β’ I have verified that two independent patch engines run PPS concurrently, exactly as expected. β’ Output sets (at 1s intervals 9600 baud): ($GP)RMC, VTG, GGA, GSA, GSV and GLL. I only needed RMC and GGA β’ The position output was accurate, at least when the static was on my desk. There was no need to evaluate it in motion. β’ Suggestions seem to work well with regular GPS analysis libraries, or if you use your own. β’ The breakout module looks like a small rechargeable button cell spot welded to its holder, hot start capability β’ The supplied short pigtail antenna with U.FL connector works well. The same applies to the more solid GPS antenna with U.FL. Note that U.FL connectors are not designed for repeated mating cycles. this. they are fragile! Use a magnifying glass when connecting. What I find suspicious: β’ Revain's supplier description states that it "Uses Original UBLOX (sic) 7th Gen Chip". Obviously the "GT-U7" module on this breakout board does not claim to be a u-blox product. Is an "original" Ublox chip used internally? Reading the ublox website on how to identify a fake, you might think that it's actually some sort of clone of u-blox Neo 6 or 7, actually configured via u-center, although u-center has no problem parsing its output. If you're expecting something real Ublox, do your research. β’ It is questionable how robust the 5V RXD, the only entry into this breakout, can be. Since I don't plan on sending it any configuration, I leave it disabled and use the module in its default mode. β’ A schematic representation of this riser would be very helpful, especially to answer the previous question. Can't find it for him. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh engine So can I trust this product in my standalone 1/8 scale RC-A380-8 jet model? Probably not. But it works well for my timing app, so I'm not deducting a star as I'm realistic about its lineage. ---
