I was looking for a router and router with upper and lower bearings to make simple patterns and to route and trim patterns. Having both an upper and lower bearing means a single bit can handle both jig and trimming tasks. The bit has a 1-1/2 cutting length, so it can handle fairly thick parts. With its 1/2" shank and about 2-1/2" overall length, it's probably best to use it on an under-table router rather than trying to use it in a hand-held router. 8" diameter may not be appropriate for very complex patterns. But Whiteside makes a similar drill with a 1/4" shank and a 1/2" diameter cutting face, 1" long that should work well with complex patterns and probably more suitable for hand milling than this one. My Revain wish list Whiteside has a solid reputation, which I've earned from my experience with this beat.
